On October 29th, 2016 our Sawabona Association family got together for a very unique event, “The World’s Biggest Eye Contact Experiment”.
Sawabona Association represented Los Angeles for an event that is hosted in more than 150 cities all over the world. With the desire to bring people together from across nations to share a minute of humanity, we experienced one of the most unique and sincere moments with strangers. We shared a minute of eye contact with each other in the heart of the 3rd Street Promenade, Santa Monica to demonstrate that beyond our differences there is love and humanity.
People from all over Los Angeles came with an open heart and mind to show that deep inside we are all connected and we all share the desire to be recognized by one another. We had guests driving three hours just to be part of this experiment, and what we found out was magical!
Two souls seeing each other for the first time, and recognizing that strangers are a mirror of us. Emotional tears were shared with people that we have never met before and most likely will never see again. Each time ended in smiles and a warm embrace. Our hearts were filled with love and gratitude for the magical experience we went through. The faces and the eyes that we met will forever be on our my minds.
This experiment was originally created by The Liberators International with the pursuit to share authentic eye contact and connection in public. The Liberators are a peaceful international social movement founded in Perth, Australia and are passionate about creating participatory public demonstrations for peace. Their work has been shared on BBC, Buzzfeed, Mashable, The Daily Mirror, ABC and have received over 100 million views world-wide.
