On March, 24th 2017 our Sawabona family came together for a very unique event, “The Sleep Out Night”. In support to one of our favorite organizations, The Covenant House, our team slept on the streets for one night in order to bring awareness and show compassion to the 2 million youth that have experienced homelessness.
The Covenant House, is a privately funded organization that protects the rights of young people and speak for those who have no voice of their own. The C.H has “houses” in 30 cities throughout the United States, Canada, and Latin America. And inside each of these facilities are all the love, care, and vital resources needed to help a young person break away forever from a life on the streets.
After learning about the beautiful work that The Covenant House California does for the homeless youth, our Sawabona family brought together amazing organizations such as “Its Coastal Consciousness” and “MyIntent” to help raise funds for this cause. Not only these organizations helped with donations, but they also brought love and intention to this project.
MyIntent, with their inspirational purpose of creating more meaningful conversations with the world, donated their materials (tokens, bracelets and maker’s kit) so that we could help create a sense of purpose for those who were participating that night. The children picked the word “EMPOWERED” and the guests picked the word “EMPOWER”. Together we asked questions, connected more deeply with each participant, learned about their life stories and created lovely new friendships.
The “Sleep Out Night” campaign has the purpose to connect with those who suffer from homelessness and bring attention to this matter. We believe by creating campaigns and activities between citizens, we can bring more compassion and kindness between each other. We want our efforts in spreading the message, to raise funds for those in need as well as show each children that they matter and that we are here to support them.
“Homeless kids have rights. They have the right to a home … the right to food … the right to guidance and an education … the right to be free from sexual, emotional, or physical abuse … and the right to be free from exploitation. These kids have the right to be safe and – most important – to be loved.” – C.H.C
