If you are experiencing a loss of firmness, fine lines, deeper wrinkles, and an overall appearance that lacks radiance, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy may be for you. Known for its regenerative and healing benefits, this nonsurgical procedure aims to help reverse and prevent those issues and so much more.

What we love about this approach is that it uses a patient’s own rich plasma to stimulate new cell growth. At The Look, we incorporate PRP into several of our topical and injection clinical applications. Hair loss and microneedling applications are very common. PRP can also be combined with dermal fillers such as Voluma for areas with thin skin such as under the eye.

TREATMENT AREAS

Face

Eye area

Neck

Hands

Hairline

HOW IT WORKS

PRP works by generating growth factors that can modify healing using a patient’s own platelets. This activation causes a cascade of new vascular changes, collagen stimulation and hair follicle development. PRP must be drawn as a blood sample, then a process is used to separate the red blood cells from the platelets, called centrifuge. The centrifuge process creates a concentrated platelet product.

PRP treatments focused on hair rejuvenation promote hair growth at the follicular level, which improves the overall skin health of the scalp and supports optimal hair growth. One treatment will be required to see if the follicle responds to the PRP treatment. If the hair follicle count increases over the next 8-12 weeks, we’ll perform three additional treatments.

For skin rejuvenation, PRP is used in conjunction with microneedling. Microneedling is a device which delivers microscopic and small punctures to the skin. PRP is microneedled into the skin to improve aging skin, discoloration, acne scarring and fine lines. Using PRP with microneedling improves downtime post procedure as well.

A consultation and assessment at The Look will determine whether you will be a suitable candidate for treatment using PRP.

RESULTS

Since the procedure is based on your own body’s healing properties and growth factor response, results may take up to 3 months. Keep in mind most people will see renewed skin after four treatments spaced 6-12 weeks apart, but everyone is different. You have to factor in a healthy lifestyle as well.

When PRP is involved, 2-4 treatment sessions may be required depending on the desired outcome. Treatment sessions are done every 6-12 weeks depending on the area of focus.

Although it does take a little time for your cells to renew themselves after the procedure is performed, the results people see make the treatment completely worth it. Don’t worry though, because once you have committed to this PRP skin rejuvenation, the effects of the treatment can last up to two full years.

RECOVERY

Post treatment, the recovery time will be dependent upon the specific procedure you had performed using PRP. For skin rejuvenation using microneedling, you will have red skin post treatment that can not be covered with make up. Clean skin is necessary for optimal healing. Typically, skin may be red and slightly dry for up to 3 days. For hair restoration, some patients go right back to work, others go home and wash their hair 4 hours after the procedure. For injectable application, most patients go back to work the next day.

FACTS ABOUT PRP

In orthopedics, surgeons use PRP for tendon and tissue injury repair, while plastic surgeons use PRP for wound healing and anti-aging procedures. Other medical disciplines that use PRP include dermatology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, sports medicine, gynecology, cardiology and dentistry.

It’s estimated that PRP skin rejuvenation is fast becoming one of the most popular anti-aging treatments that is non-surgical. Each year almost 15 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are performed, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. PRP is rapidly becoming one that more and more people who are concerned with aging skin are requesting in greater numbers.

PRP Hair and Skin Rejuvenation As we age, our skin doesn’t renew itself as naturally as it once did.
