Florence Welch of\u00a0Florence +The Machine<\/a> has opened up about her desires in life, away from writing and releasing music.<\/p>\n In a new interview with Vogue<\/a><\/em>, the artist spoke about life during the pandemic, the creation of the band’s new album ‘Dance Fever’, and her complicated feelings around motherhood.<\/p>\n \u201cI had this drive underneath me and I was like if these songs want to get out, I have to get them out fast, because I do have other desires,” she said.<\/p>\n Welch added: \u201cThe thing I\u2019ve always been sure of is my work, but I do start to feel this shifting of priorities, this sense of like…maybe I want something different.”<\/p>\n The band\u2019s fifth album is set for release on May 13 via Polydor, and has been previewed so far by the singles \u2018My Love\u2019<\/a>,\u00a0\u2018King\u2019<\/a>, \u2018Heaven Is Here\u2019<\/a> and ‘Free’<\/a>, which has a Bill Nighy-starring video.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, Welch and co. previewed new \u2018Dance Fever\u2019 tracks \u2013 including \u2018Free\u2019 \u2013 at a handful of intimate UK gigs<\/a>, which ended on April 19 in London.<\/p>\n Shot by @autumndewilde<\/a> for @voguemagazine<\/a> ?https:\/\/t.co\/pG5GuUag7Y<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/OXdKB5gFNt<\/a><\/p>\n — florence welch (@florencemachine) April 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Speaking about her fear around wanting both a career and motherhood, Welch said in the interview: \u201cI think I\u2019m afraid. It seems like the bravest thing in the world to have children. It\u2019s the ultimate measure of faith and of letting go of control.<\/p>\n “I feel like to have a child and to let that amount of love in\u2026 I\u2019ve spent my life trying to run away from these big feelings. I think I\u2019ve had a stilted emotional immaturity just through having been in addiction and eating disorders for years.”<\/p>\n She also discussed gaining a sense of freedom during the writing of ‘Dance Fever’ because she was “so tired of trying to prove myself to people who are never going to get it\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like as a female artist you spend a lot of time screaming into the void for people to take you seriously, in a way that male artists just don\u2019t have to do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u2018Dance Fever\u2019 serves as the follow-up to 2018\u2019s\u00a0\u2018High As Hope\u2019<\/a>, with Welch previously describing the album as \u201ca fairytale in 14 songs\u201d. It was co-produced by the singer alongside\u00a0Jack Antonoff<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Glass Animals<\/a>\u00a0frontman Dave Bayley,\u00a0the latter of whom recently remixed \u2018My Love\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n The band will embark on\u00a0a full UK arena tour in November<\/a>, while a\u00a0huge North American tour<\/a>\u00a0will also take place later this year, with support from\u00a0Arlo Parks<\/a>,\u00a0Sam Fender<\/a>,\u00a0King Princess<\/a>,\u00a0Yves Tumor<\/a>,\u00a0Japanese Breakfast<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Wet Leg<\/a> on select dates.
