Exchanged between the animal and the child look expresses great tenderness<\/p>\n<p>Gott was never attracted by the austere Greek Revival style practiced by sculptors of his time.<\/p>\n<p>His sculpture is heroic , pastoral, romantic.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Gott was baptized December 11, 1785 in London. He was the son of Benjamin Gott , a manufacturer of wool Leeds , Yorkshire . Joseph becomes the apprentice of John Flaxman between 1798 and 1802, he then studied at the Royal Academy from March 1805 where there next year won a silver medal . Between 1820-1848 , Gott exposed thirteen times at the Royal Academy , showing thirty works in all. In 1822 , Gott was sent to Rome with a pension offered by the painter Sir Thomas Lawrence . And in 1826 , it is reported that both for his country and for himself , Gott has earned a great reputation and success .<\/p>\n<p>Receiving numerous orders for English visitors to Rome, Gott also continues to make frequent trips to England and gets even more orders from both the aristocracy and the industrial magnates of the North. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy between 1820 and 1848.<\/p>\n<p>He is particularly known for its delicate sculptures of children and animals.<\/p>\n<p>He made many models in clay and plaster, but the work was always finished in stone . In 1823 , William Spencer Cavendish , 6th Duke of Devonshire , buys Greyhound with two unweaned puppies ( Chatsworth House, Derbys ) ; Gott is now called the &#8221; Landseer ( visionary ) marble .<\/p>\n<p>His range of subjects was perhaps more varied than that of any other sculptor in Europe at that time.
