About the artist

Judy Terra

I first dusted off my mother’s sewing machine at age 9 teaching myself through trial and error how to design my own clothes. Knowing I could make something no one else had in later years became the passion I wanted to share with others. Creating designs based on piecework I assure myself and my clientele each and every piece of clothing will be unique unto itself.

Like any art, my inspiration can begin with a single fabric, a piece of trim or even a single bead, then it seems to be out of my control, each piece decides where it should go and where it wants to be creatively used letting me know when it’s complete.

I love using unique and raw materials: Asian Silks, African Mudcloth, Imported Linens and Wool’s, Hand-carved Soapstone, African Trade beads, Chinese coins; anything which may add a new texture or visual dimension. By adding just one item or fabric to a Jacket it can go from a casual fun frock to an elegant Artwear piece in the blink of an eye!
